About the team

What SWAMPYBARG is chasing, and where the team started. You will also find an introduction to the sport itself here.

Concept

Building the thrill together, all the way to the top of the world.

SWAMPYBARG chases a kind of ultimate that thrills everyone — the people watching, and us, the people playing.

What we value most is deep communication, trust and the bonds between our members. We bring out each other’s strengths, and our starting point is simply to enjoy playing our own game on the field to the fullest.

Because we truly enjoy it, we play a kind of ultimate only SWAMPYBARG can play — and we want to share that fun and fire with everyone who watches and cheers us on.

In our own Swampy way, we chase the play that thrills us, on the way to the top of Japan and the world. We want to share what makes this sport special with people who do not know ultimate or SWAMPYBARG yet.

Come and share the thrill with us.

Our Story

Where the team started

The story behind the name

SWAMPYBARG is a name made from two words. “Swampy” comes from a crocodile character that one of our founding members loved. “Barg” comes from “vague”, the French word for “wave” — we adapted the spelling to carry our wish to make a new wave.

Why the team was founded

SWAMPYBARG was born from a spirit of challenge: the wish to beat all three of the strongest teams of the time. But winning was never the only goal. We wanted to make a new wave in Japanese women’s ultimate. That wish is where the team began.

Ultimate

The sport SWAMPYBARG plays: what is ultimate?

Ultimate is a seven-a-side team sport played with a flying disc.

The team with the disc is on offence and the other team defends, with possession switching back and forth as both sides go for points.

How to score

  1. STEP 01

    Pass the disc

You cannot run while holding the disc — teammates keep it moving with passes.

  2. STEP 02

Work it to the end zone

Keep passing all the way to the end zone.

  3. STEP 03

    Catch to score

A catch inside the end zone is one point.

Spirit of the Game

Spirit of the Game

No referees — players keep to the rules and take responsibility for fair play.

In ultimate, even fouls are settled by the players talking it through, and physical contact is not allowed. Compete as hard as you can, but never lose respect for your opponents or the joy of playing. That is what we call the Spirit of the Game.
